Associates Degrees & HS Diplomas

Four high school students who enrolled in the Cobb County School District’s Move on When Ready (MOWR) program, recently earned associates degrees in addition to their high school diplomas.

MOWR gives students an earlystart on their college careers by allowing them to earn college credits while still in high school.

Allan Kalinda, a Sprayberry High School senior, earned his Associates Degree in Natural Sciences, from Middle Georgia State University while also earning his high school diploma. Allan studied in the residency program at the university the past two years and will enter the University of Georgia this fall as a junior.

Kennesaw Mountain High School student Mariah Young graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College with an Environmental Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree. She will attend the College of Coastal Georgia in the fall as an honors student.

“I will complete my four-year degree in about two years or less,” Mariah said. “This makes my dream of obtaining a doctorate of pharmacy more plausible and shortens that time that I spend in college, post high school.”

Brothers Paul and Saul Howard from Allatoona High School participated in a graduation ceremony for their associates degrees at Chattahoochee Technical College, but they will finish their course requirements at the college this summer.

Last year, the District’s MOWR program, which offers challenging academic experiences to qualified students, helped approximately 600 CCSD students enroll in college courses on college campuses, online and at their own high school campus. More information about Cobb’s MOWR options are available online.
