Current sophomore and junior students competed for participation in the Governor’s Honors Program by interviewing for a position to compete at the state level to attend Berry College during the summer of 2018 to expand their learning in the field of mathematics.
In early November, students interviewed at the county level for 15 slots to compete at the state level for Governor’s Honor Program. The state conducts online interviews and then chooses the students for face-to-face interviews. The students then are chosen to attend a local university for one month including room and board. Go to: https://gosa.georgia.gov/governors-honors-program for more information.
Students are chosen based on their mathematics academic performance, interview skills, ability to collaborate and problem solve, as well as communicating clearly. For 2017, the following schools sent students to interview: Allatoona; Campbell; Harrison; Kennesaw Mt.; Lassiter; McEachern; North Cobb; Osborne; Pebblebrook; Pope; South Cobb; Sprayberry; Walton; and Wheeler. 15 students were chosen to move on to the online state interview process for January. At this stage, it is very important that the students have strong essays and teacher recommendations. We would like to congratulate all of our students for participating in the experience and wish those that have made it to phase 2, good luck!
We appreciate our teachers that volunteer their time to interview and provide feedback for our students: Nickey Ice; Kim Harrell; Lisa Chase; Jennifer West; Suzanne Yeganegi; Debbie Poss; Michael Hodorowski; Mark Bagwell; Don Slater; Sandi Yoder; Jennifer Speer; Karen Kline; and Keisha King.
