Have you or are you attending your school’s Math Night??
Math nights have been underway in Cobb County Schools, engaging the family in games of learning math and/or student led teaching!
Our schools have done a fantastic job in sharing the math that their students are learning in our mathematics classrooms in Cobb County. Hopefully, you are able to attend one of these fabulous evenings and partake in real world applications and/or gaming of mathematics. Our local school teachers either organize these events or partners in education may take on the facilitation of the evenings. Here is a look at some Math Nights that have concluded or are coming up in Cobb County:
Past Math Nights:
Keheley Elementary: Keheley Elementary hosted a Family Math Night on November 28 and over 300 students attended! Brandy Medlin, 4th grade teacher, wrote a grant to Mathnasium and Keheley was selected as 1 of 35 schools in the
nation to receive the grant! The company came to Keheley and set up math games and STEM activities that was facilitated by their employees, while Keheley administration and volunteer teachers facilitated and pizza was arranged for all that attended. It was a great evening for families to engage in math through games.
Floyd Middle: Floyd offered a Math Night on November 28 as well. Sara Folk, Academic Coach, arranged for parents to learn from their students, the math concepts that they are currently learning. They had a great turnout and students enjoyed sharing the concepts with their families.
Shallowford Falls Elementary: hosted their annual Math/STEM Night on November 2. There were fun math games for students and parents to participate in each classroom. They were joined by high school students from their feeder schools, Pope and Lassiter, who conducted additional games in the gym. They had a huge turnout of parents, students, and teachers.
Kemp Elementary: for the past 15 years, Kemp has a Kroger Math Night with great attendance. This year, 129 students and their families attended. Students complete grade level, real-world math word problems as they venture through Kroger. Teachers attend and assist with any questions and guidance. Each year is a different theme and this year was about teamwork!
