Purse Empowerment

Floyd Middle School Hosts Purse Empowerment

School Counselors, Kim Gray and Tanyika Butler, at Floyd Middle School hosted their annual Purse Empowerment girls workshop. With “Hello Gorgeous” as this year’s theme, about 40 girls attended the Saturday workshop. The young ladies participated in several sessions developed around the essentials that a woman carries in her purse. Upon arrival each young lady received a bag of goodies that contained such essentials as deodorant, nail polish, lotion, and  hand-sanitizer. They attended a session on self-esteem and were gifted with a “Hello Gorgeous” box with a compact mirror. During the workshop, there was a session about their changing body from a nurse and a health talk and mini Jazzercise lesson from a nutritionist. All products and speakers were made possible with generous donations from the community.  The day concluded with each young lady being given a purse for all of the items she received during the workshop. New friendships and empowerment were the goals for the day!
