Building Leaders at Sope Creek

Members of Sope Creek’s Student Council work to build a positive learning climate.

In support of Sope Creek Elementary School’s mission of “Leadership, Citizenship, and Stewardship,” school counselors, Jennifer Frederick and Lisa Hunt facilitate their school’s Student Council program. The Student Council consists of an elected Executive Board as well as Room Representatives and Alternates from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class. The students meet monthly with their school counselors to establish committees, continue work on standing committees, and decide as a group on activities they can lead that will help make their school an even better place to learn. Seen here are students at their annual Leadership Institute where they discussed what it means to lead and be a leader, reviewed parliamentary procedures, and worked on team building. Both Ms. Frederick and Ms. Hunt have really enjoyed facilitating this program and feel strongly that it contributes to the positive learning climate in their school.
