The Hightower Trail Middle School music programs were recently recognized as the Georgia Music Educators Association Program of the Year. This award is given to one music program in the state each year based on student participation and achievement in band, chorus, and orchestra. In addition to these programs, Hightower Trail also offers courses in guitar and music appreciation.
The Hightower Middle School Bands and directors Andrew Cole and Fred Norton have performed at numerous state and regional conferences including the Music for All National Conference Festival, the Music for All Southeastern Regionals, the Georgia Music Educators In Service Conference, the University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival, The University of Alabama, as well as receiving consistent Superior ratings at all Large Group Performance Evaluations in the state of Georgia. Previously the program also received the Exemplary Performance Award from the Georgia Music Educators Association.
The orchestras, under the direction of Michael Tompkins and Paul O’ Keefe have performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association In Service Conference, the American String Teachers Association National Orchestra Festival as well as receiving the Exemplary Performance Award from the Georgia Music Educators Association.
The choral program, under the direction of Suzanne Logue, has demonstrated consistent performance excellence, and Ms. Logue has served as an officer in the Georgia Music Educators Association as well as serving as an accompanist for the GMEA All-State Choirs.
The long history of outstanding participation, teaching, and performance excellence at Hightower Trail along with incredible community and administrative support have established the Hightower Trail Middle School music program as not only one of the finest in the state, but also in the nation.
