On February 12th, Transition Services presented their second Transition Talk of the year.
Pope High School’s Learning Commons hosted a Transition Talk, sponsored by Cobb County School District Transition Services, on February 12, 2019. Ms. Tanita Teagle, a social worker with Region One of The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), spoke to a group of over 30 parents. Ms. Teagle covered topics related to Medicaid Waivers, which are an essential component of post-secondary life for students with disabilities when they leave high school.
Parents who attended learned about all the services that are available through the waiver program and learned the importance of applying for a waiver when their students are still young because the waiting list for a Waiver can be long. Handouts given to parents included resources that were available through their DBHDD, and an application for waivers. Many of those resources can be found on the Transition Services web page or here: https://dbhdd.georgia.gov/developmental-disabilities. A question and answer session was included in the Transition Talk.
Transition Services’ next event, A Night with Vendors, will be held at Hillgrove High School on March 12th from 5:30-7:30. DBHDD and many of agencies and providers will be on hand to speak with parents.
