ESOL/IEL students from Harmony Leland ES visited the Atlanta High Museum of Arts in March 2018.
ESOL and IEL students’ lesson on different artists and styles in their ESOL class (with teacher, Dr. Briggs), culminated in a fieldtrip to the Atlanta High Museum. During the tour, students had the opportunity to enhance their learning by interacting with and asking questions from the instructors at the Museum. After the tour, students participated in an Artist’s workshop, where they learned about painting, drawing and several other ‘hands on’ activities. For most of them, it was the first time visiting a Museum, and the positive feedback from parents, was extraordinary. This is something that needs to be implemented at other elementary schools. Support from the Title III Parent Resource Facilitators: Alfredo Mieles and Maria Prieto, and the HLES’s principal, Ms. Whitehead, made this experience meaningful for the students.
