Evaluating the English Language Proficiency of Middle & High School International Students
Using the WIDA Online Screener
The purpose of the WIDA online screener is to accurately verify if the student has sufficient proficiency in English to meaningfully access the grade-level curriculum in English without language support. The screener is administered to CCSD middle and high school students by at the International Welcome Center (IWC). This important assessment also helps schools to determine if the student is eligible for language support services. Such services include standards-based English language development that is aligned with the grade-level content area standards in order to support growth in the four language domains (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) as well as full proficiency in social, instructional and academic language across the content areas.
