Elementary, middle, and high school teams representing Cobb schools placed in the top three at the regional tournament and now prepare for state competition.
Several Cobb teams competed in the Metro Atlanta Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on March 2, 2019. During this competition, teams performed solutions for selected long-term problems. Teams must utilize creative problem solving to determine, design, and perform solutions. These problems fall into five categories: Vehicle, Technical, Classics, Structure, and Performance.
Teams representing Chalker Elementary, Mt. Bethel Elementary, Dickerson Middle, and Walton High School have advanced to the Georgia state finals in their respective divisions. The Chalker team performing in Classics earned the coveted Renatra Fusca Creativity Award. This award is presented to teams that exhibit exceptional creativity in their solution or through an idea that goes beyond the solution. The advancing teams will compete in the state finals at Columbus State University on April 13, 2019.
Chalker and Walton teams will create and build mechanical creatures that hide in plain sight, act out original performances on Leonardo da Vinci, and share humorous performances about sneaky characters that distract others while trying to take control of something. Mt. Bethel’s team will compete alongside a Chalker one in the Performance category. A Chalker team will also assemble and ride on a vehicle, where it will work in different ways to “save the day”. The Dickerson team will use a device to propel a structure and test that structure’s strength.
Best wishes to these teams as they prepare for the state competition.
