School counselors help teachers to help students who might be feeling anxious. The school counseling team at Murdock Elementary School created “Breathe Bags” to help address the anxiety in their student population. Using the data results from their needs assessment with teachers, anxiety was identified as an urgent area of need for students. Each teacher received training and directions on utilizing the bag, which is filled with resources to address anxiety, including a stress ball, fidgets, coloring supplies, and a grounding exercise. The school counseling team, Shelia Garth, Anastasia West, and Andrea Hodgin, hope that the “Breathe Bag” intervention will help teachers feel supported and empowered to help their students throughout the day.
