We want you for Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) in Mathematics for 2020!!

Rising juniors and rising seniors compete for participation in the Governor’s Honors Program by interviewing for a spot to attend a local college during the summer to expand their learning in the field of mathematics. Students will interview on Nov. 7, 2019 to try and qualify for the state interviews. Those students that make it to the State interviews have a chance to attend Berry College summer 2020 to meet with other mathematics students and professors to work on math problems in our world today.

Two of our students have made it to attend Berry College Summer 2019! They are:

Damon Lin from Campbell HS,

Devanshu Tiwari from Wheeler HS!

Congratulations on your dedication of 3 different interviews! This is truly an accomplishment.

Our students did a great job of revising their applications to GHP for summer 2019. In February, students interviewed in person for their spot to attend Berry College in Rome, Georgia for the summer months. The students will find out in April if they will be attending. The students that are waiting to find out are from Campbell, Harrison, Hillgrove, Kell, Lassiter, Walton, and Wheeler.

In early November, students interviewed at the county level for 15 slots to compete at the state level for Governor’s Honor Program. The state conducts online interviews and then chooses the students for face-to-face interviews. The students then are chosen to attend a local university for one month including room and board. Go to: https://gosa.georgia.gov/governors-honors-program for more information.

Students are chosen based on their mathematics academic performance, interview skills, ability to collaborate and problem solve, as well as communicating clearly. Students are chosen to move on to the online state interview process in January. At this stage, it is very important that the students have strong essays and teacher recommendations. We would like to congratulate all of our students for participating in the experience and wish those that have made it to phase 2, good luck!

We appreciate our teachers that volunteer their time to interview and provide feedback for our students: Nickey Ice; Kim Harrell; Jennifer West; Suzanne Yeganegi; Debbie Poss; Michael Hodorowski; Mark Bagwell; Don Slater; Sandi Yoder; Jennifer Speer; Karen Kline; and Keisha King.
