Happy Georgia Pre-K Week CCSD Students!
The week of October 7th is Georgia Pre-K week. The goal of Georgia Pre-K at Hendricks Elementary School is to provide CCSD students with readiness skills essential to kindergarten success. Pre-K aims to expose children to a variety of skills, concepts, and quality learning experiences. During Georgia Pre-K week, students interacted with community guests and leaders.
Pre-K week is a great time for parents, teachers, and the community to celebrate young learners. During Pre-K week at Hendricks ES, Pre-K students had a special visit from the Cobb County Public Library Book Mobile. Students enjoyed two fall-themed read-alouds and decorated pine cones. After their activity, students checked out books to take home. In addition to the Book Mobile visit, Cobb County Firefighter, Mr. Scott discussed school and life fire safety. Mr. Scott shared how firefighters protect the community and schools.
CCSD is committed to Pre-K students having joyous and rewarding learning experiences. Other examples of daily activities in Pre-K include daily literacy and language lessons, outdoor environment observations and reflections, numerical sequencing, counting and measuring tasks, and student-centered choice centers which build students’ fine motor, gross motor, and social-emotional capacities. When planning for academic-based experiences, teachers use the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (also known as GELDS).
