Our Elementary Honor Chorus students came together to share their love of singing with a packed audience!!
The 2019-2020 Elementary Honor Chorus was held on November 7, 2019. Hosted by North Cobb High School in their beautiful new Performing Arts Center, over 180 elementary school children from schools across the district came together to work with guest clinician, Lori Van Lenten.
These students worked tirelessly with their elementary general music teachers to prepare the five selections chosen by Ms. Van Lenten ahead of the November 7th date. They came together on the concert date to work together with the guest conductor, Ms. Van Lenten, to finesse these selections and showcase their talent at a concert that same evening.
Lori Van Lenten, this year’s guest conductor and clinician, has been living and teaching in the Augusta, GA area since 2001 after she graduated from Florida State University. She has had experience teaching Pre-K, Elementary, Middle, High School, Adults, private voice lessons, and children with special needs. She is an active Musical Director with the Augusta Players and is the Founding Artistic Director of VOCE, a community based vocal training and music education program for children 1st – 12th grade.
One of the most exciting aspects of this concert was the beginning of a new tradition: livestreaming through the CCSD Communications Department. David Owen, a CCSD Video Services Team Lead, facilitated the livestream from the concert. Over 100 people around the world (some as far away as Japan and Columbia) were able to view this concert that they would have otherwise missed. That definitely translates into happy families abroad!
