Dodgen Orchestra invited to prestigious national festival

Students to perform for ASTA National Conference. The Dodgen Orchestra will perform in Orlando, Florida for a national panel of evaluators and audience of music educators and performers.

The Dodgen MS Chamber Orchestra has been invited to perform at the 2020 A.S.T.A. National Orchestra Festival in Orlando, Florida on March 4-7, 2020.  The Dodgen MS Chamber Orchestra won 1st Place—Middle School Orchestra Division at the 2017 A.S.T.A. National Orchestra Festival. The Dodgen Orchestras are under the direction of Ashley Culley and Jessica Lewis and serve as an example for middle school orchestra programs across the United States.

Founded in 1946, the American String Teachers Association exists to support string and orchestra teachers and players. Our members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. We provide teaching resources, a career center, professional education, insurance programs, local and national events, and access to a vibrant and sharing strings community.

Dodgen Middle School Orchestra

The Dodgen Middle School Chamber Orchestra is a select group of 6th, 7thand 8thgrade students.  Students audition in August for this extracurricular morning ensemble.  The Chamber Orchestra rehearses three times a week before school for performances at the school and in the community. The Dodgen Chamber Orchestra performed with the Dodgen 8thGrade Orchestra at the 2011 and 2015 G.M.E.A. In-Service Conferences.  The Chamber Orchestra performed alone at the 2018 G.M.E.A. In-service Conference.  In March 2017, the Dodgen Chamber Orchestra earned First Place—Middle School Division at the A.S.T.A. National Orchestra Festival.   The Chamber Orchestra was invited to compete at the 2020 National Orchestra Festival in Orlando.

The Dodgen Chamber Orchestra will have an N.O.F. Preview Concert on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:00pm in Dodgen Theater. They will premiere a piece written by Walton Orchestra Director, Dr. Perry Holbrook.
