Cobb ELA teachers, admin, and coaches take advantage of professional learning opportunities around balanced literacy writing instruction.
The Cobb Balanced Literacy Writing Series is a personalized, two-part professional learning opportunity designed for teachers, coaches, and administrators. The series is grounded in the skills and concepts from district-supported, board-approved resources that directly align to Cobb Teaching and Learning ELA Standards. During these sessions, instructors modeled evidence-based writer’s workshop practices for teachers, and participants received innovative ideas and strategies for immediate implementation into the classroom.
Cobb ELA started the new year off “right” at the Balanced Literacy Writing Series. This two-part series, grounded in research-based best instructional practices, provided a day of collaboration and connection for K-12 teachers in two sites across the district.
Participants chose from the following strands to best personalize their professional learning experience:
- K-2 and 3-5 Strand 1 (Setting the Foundation)
- K-2 and 3-5 Strand 2 (Digging Deeper)
- 3-5 Nurturing Independent Readers
- K-5 Leading the Work
- 6-12 Strand 1 (Laying the Foundation)
- 6-12 Strand 2 (Building a Culture of Lifelong Readers and Writers)
Teachers learned innovative ideas and writing instructional strategies to apply in classrooms and share with colleagues. The Balanced Literacy Writing Series is continually expanding. The Cobb ELA team looks forward to continuing to serve K-12 educators in their professional learning journeys.
