Learning Resources Community Review

Digital and Print Material Available for Review.

Learning Resources Community Review runs through March 27, 2020 for the areas of K-12 General Music, Chorus, Dance, Theatre, K-12 Visual Arts, 6-12 Band and Orchestra, K-12 Health and Physical Education, and 6-12 Career, Technology, and Agricultural Education

This year the District is reviewing materials for Extended Core classrooms that include: K-12 General Music, Chorus, Dance, Theatre, K-12 Visual Arts, 6-12 Band and Orchestra, K-12 Health and Physical Education, and 6-12 Career, Technology, and Agricultural Education (CTAE).The teacher review process began in the Summer of 2019.

In late Summer 2019, a select group of teachers and district level supervisors were asked to begin the arduous task of narrowing the many titles available. The criteria used varied by subject, however proper alignment to Cobb Teaching and Learning Standards is the primary focus. Teachers spent days of their summer working through title after title so standard aligned textbooks could be offered to teachers across the district for review.

Local schools began receiving access to the new materials late Fall of 2019. Teachers are given an extended amount of time to review materials, so they may be used in the classroom to help determine if a resource is a good fit for a specific course. Teachers have until the end of March 2020 to review materials.

As a part of the resource material review process the Cobb County School District is offering the community an opportunity to review learning resources being considered for content acquisition in the areas of: K-12 General Music, Chorus, Dance, Theatre, K-12 Visual Arts, 6-12 Band and Orchestra, K-12 Health and Physical Education, and 6-12 Career, Technology, and Agricultural Education. This review is the first of two opportunities to review materials currently being considered for content acquisition in the specified areas. The second opportunity will be offered in May once title selections have been narrowed down.

Print and digital materials will be available for community review through March 27, 2020, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Mondays-Fridays, at the following location:

  • CCSD Hawthorne Center – Room 139 1595 Hawthorne Avenue, Smyrna, GA
