Cobb County School District K-5 early intervention program teachers gathered for a full day of professional learning to support our elementary students.
Professional development was provided by our own EIP teacher leaders and from Learning A-Z, our Early Literacy Framework digital intervention partner. All the sessions were packed with excited teachers learning about reading and math!
Dr. Reneé Heiberger, EIP lead teacher from Hendricks Elementary provided a jam-packed session about math games and strategies to use with students in all elementary grades. Teachers were thrilled to receive a notebook with the games and manipulatives to use with their students. In addition to providing teachers with math strategies, Dr. Heiberger and her friend Ms. Vanessa Hardaway reminded us all to take a breath, remember self-care, and above all to remember our why.
Ms. Bileni Teklu shared Balanced Literacy Strategies to inform instruction. During the presentation, Ms. Teklu taught our EIP teachers how to manage student needs through teaching reading and writing in a balanced way by modeling reading and writing for students, and explaining how to scaffold their learning in reading and writing before giving them the independence they need to be effective readers and writers.
Our Early Literacy Framework teachers had a deep dive into Headsprout, which is the highly interactive digital intervention selected for one of our rotations in our reading workshop model of instruction. The session included exploring the reporting capability and online resources. This resource will be provided once again to all K-5 students in the District during the summer via Summer Link, Cobb County School District’s hub for summer learning.
