Check out the “About Us!” and the “VIP Presentation Library” tabs to learn more about your parent mentors and presentations offered by CCSD Special Education personnel!
Do you need instructional strategies to help your student on the home front? Want to learn more about the IEP process? How about assistance with your student’s challenging behaviors… or even tips on how to help your child understand their disability?
Good news! These topics are being addressed through Cobb’s Special Education Parent Mentor programs – offered virtually at this time – for parents of students with disabilities. Presentations facilitated by CCSD Special Education personnel will be available on the parent mentor website under the “VIP Presentation Library” tab. You will soon find a short video introducing the parent mentors, Stacy Greene and Antoinette Nichols, under the “About Us!” tab.
“We realize that parents still need information to help them navigate challenges with their children,” explains Antoinette, “that’s why we knew it was important to provide virtual programming. All of these presentations will be shared on our social media and on our website.”
The first presentation “How to Talk to Your Child about Their Disability” will help parents determine when to have this conversation with their children and provide ways to address this challenging topic. “Because Antoinette and I have sons with disabilities, we know this isn’t an easy conversation to have,” says Stacy. “We often hear from parents who don’t know how to begin this conversation with their own children, so we know this is a relevant topic.”
As always, Stacy and Antoinette continue to be available to parents who need support in the way of a listening ear or resources. You can reach them by telephone or email – see below.
