Teacher of the Year is in honor of recognizing our outstanding teachers in the classroom engaging our students in learning their standards. There are so many wonderful mathematics teachers in Cobb County and the 2020-2021 school year recognized the following 6-12 mathematics teachers for their exemplary work:

Cooper MS: Angela Broussard

Dickerson MS: Brooke Whalen

Dodgen MS: Kim Clark

East Cobb MS: Jennifer Katz

“This is my 4th year teaching at East Cobb.  From 2000-2003 I taught 8th grade math at Smitha and then took a break from teaching to raise my own children who are 9th and 11th graders at Pope.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to come back and be a part of a school and have my own students again.  Math education has always been a huge passion of mine and I missed teaching a lot when I was not in the classroom.  East Cobb is a great place to teach and I work with some of the best teachers I have ever known.

I am so proud to represent East Cobb Middle School as the teacher of the year.  I am aware that this year presents challenges unlike any we, as educators, have faced and I hope to proudly wear the title and represent the best we have to offer.  I wish that some of the wonderful perks of being Teacher of the Year were still in place because I would love to be able to share this accomplishment with my students and family, but just knowing that the staff at my school sees me as someone who will represent our school proudly is a huge honor.”

Kennesaw Mt. HS: Kristina Mater

“I have taught at Kennesaw Mountain High School for almost 16 years.  I am passionate about teaching math to students, from honors to support level courses. I enjoy making connections with students and helping them believe in themselves. I am honored to be chosen as 2020 teacher of the year at KMHS.  There are so many great teachers in our building going above and beyond to do what’s best for our students and I’m thankful to be considered one of the best!”

Wheeler HS: Raymond Furstein

“I’ve been teaching for 18 years, and I’ve been at Wheeler since I started.  I currently teach Honors Geometry and AP Calculus AB/BC.

The faculty, staff, and Math department at Wheeler have been amazing since I started my student-teaching there, and I am honored to be recognized by them and to represent them.”
