Griffin MS represented CCSD at this year’s Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support (GAPBS) virtual conference with a crowd pleasing presentation titled All the Way Up: Scaling Up PBIS Fidelity across the Tiers, which describes how they have pivoted to scale up PBIS fidelity across Tiers 1 – 3 amidst a global pandemic. Presenters included Dr. Loralee Hill, Principal; Kacie Phipps, Assistant Principal; Mia Beasley, Academic Coach; Erica Fox, Academic Coach; Carla Fish, Teacher; Lori Quintana, Media Specialist; Ashley Bunkley, PTSA Parliamentarian; William “Brady” McCaffrey, School Counselor; and Stella Mejia, School Counselor. Griffin Middle School has been implementing PBIS since the 2015 school year. Over 100 session participants across the globe learned about the journey of the PBIS team and how they have worked to scale up fidelity across Tiers 1 – 3 and intentionally adopt and embed family engagement strategies, community partnerships, restorative practices, adult and student SEL, and cultural responsiveness. Session participants were also able to view Griffin’s PBIS Roll Call Video, which aired between the GAPBS Conference sessions. (2020, December 1). The Griffin MS team wowed session participants and they received numerous commendations for their presentation:
“It seems insufficient to call you a Leadership Team! You are a model organization and get the most out of your process. I’m impressed with your Principal who is a leader and coworker on the team. You are definitely All the Way Up with implementation! Committed and consistent with great leadership! You are so purposeful with your implementation. Great use of data! Student Voice! Amazing organization! Thanks for sharing!” – Anthony “Tony” Feldmann, GADOE PBIS State Team
“You all provide such comprehensive supports for the students in your school. I can tell building relationships is your primary goal. I agree with Tony Feldmann – you are more than a leadership team. You are a model for serving your students, staff and families. I also appreciate how you all continue to improve your practices using data. I’m so glad Cobb County highlighted Griffin Middle School.” – Sandra “Sandy” Demuth, GADOE PBIS State Team
“Thank you for being real and honest about the work/time you put into scaling up. It makes me feel more comfortable about the “slow moving” of scaling up.” – Erica Walsh, Session Participant
“So impressed with all that you are doing to support students, staff, and families at Griffin Middle School! Keep up the great work.” – Amy Henley, Session Participant
The GADOE, who supports CCSD PBIS schools along with the help of Metro RESA, considers Griffin Middle to be a Model Organization. The Griffin MS team receives support from Shantay Evans, District PBIS Coach with CCSD’s Positive School Culture Support Department.
