Uplifting Students

CMS Positive Message Crosswalk.

Campbell Middle School counselors help create a crosswalk of positive messaging to uplift their students.

Campbell Middle School counselors, Cinde Valencia and Alexandra Gorrell, have noticed that during these uncertain and challenging times, their students have been feeling disconnected from one another and from the school.  An opportunity to encourage, engage, motivate, and connect their students came with a new schoolwide initiative – Walk or Roll to School Day.

Students were encouraged to walk or roll to school, by riding their bike or skateboarding.  Once they arrived at school, they were greeted by a colorful, new crosswalk with lots of positive messages.  The counselors and teachers from Campbell Middle designed and created the crosswalk with chalk.  Once the students crossed the crosswalk on their way to school, they were met by teachers who gave them an unexpected welcome to school with smiles, healthy snacks and water.

The counselors also shared that they are considering making this a permanent part of their school and are looking to have the crosswalk painted.
