FAQ

Q. Where can I find a list of textbooks my student is using this year?
A. A complete list of student textbooks can be found by clicking on the CCSD Approved Materials links provided on this page.
Q. I received a letter from my child’s school that says we have to pay for a damaged textbook. Who makes this decision at the school?
A. The school’s textbook administrator has the responsibility for assessing and collecting fines for lost or damaged textbooks. The textbook administrator uses the guidelines outlined in Administrative Rule DFJ-R.
Q. What can I do if I don’t agree with the charges for a lost or damaged textbook?
A. Contact the local school administrators to discuss your concerns.
Q. What will happen if I don’t pay for the lost or damaged textbook?
A. Board Administrative Rule DFJ-R states that students who do not pay for textbooks issued to them which have been lost or damaged shall not be issued additional textbooks or other instructional materials until restitution is made. Students who have not been issued textbooks due to unpaid debts should be loaned text materials for classroom work when required. DFJ-R
further states that students who do not pay for instructional resources issued specifically to them shall be denied the privilege of checking out additional materials or equipment until restitution is made. Students who do not pay shall not receive grade cards, diplomas or progress reports until restitution is made.
Q. My child has damaged a textbook and I can’t afford to pay for the damages. What should I do?
A. Contact the local school administrators to discuss your concerns. DFJ-R guidelines provide direction for this type of this situation.
Q. How can I get a set of textbooks for my student to use at home?
A. If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that states an additional set of textbooks is required, the local school will issue additional textbooks. If your child has a medical condition that requires an additional set of textbooks for home, please submit a letter from your child’s doctor to the textbook administrator.
Q. How can I get textbooks for a student who is hospital home bound?
A. Contact the local school guidance counselor. He or she will be able to provide the necessary support and guidance for this question.
Q. Why doesn’t CCSD provide a set of textbooks for school and a set of textbooks for home?
A. The budget for learning materials does not allow for the purchase of two textbooks per student per course.
Q. How can I buy a set of textbooks for my student to keep at home?
A. Please refer to the CCSD Approved Materials website. This site provides all of the information that will be necessary when purchasing additional textbooks. Textbooks can be purchased directly from publishers or from used textbook vendors.
