The Cobb County Visual Arts program cultivates the whole student, gradually building many kinds of literacy while developing intuition, reasoning, imagination, and mental and physical dexterity into unique forms of expression and communication. The visual arts equip students with necessary skills for 21st century learning and allow students to apply contemporary methods of investigation.
Academic achievement, knowledge, and skills are evident in the arts and are measured through performance-based assessments. By using the Georgia Performance Standards connected to Common Core standards, visual arts students are engaged in higher order thinking through art history, aesthetics, criticism and production and experience exploration into career opportunities involving art-based skills.
Visual arts classes are offered at all grade levels (K-12). Advanced courses are offered at some middle schools and at the high school level. Students in Cobb County consistently place in local, state and national art shows and competitions.
