Interpreting in Special Education Conferences

Our Mission

The Cobb County School District International Welcome Center (IWC), facilitates home-to-school and school-to-home communications by providing local schools, parents, and community with the following support services: middle school English language proficiency assessment for international students, high school English language proficiency testing for international students which includes advisement, grade placement and transcript evaluation, as well as translation of district policies and local school documents, interpretation of school related meetings, student evaluations, parent conferences, special education meetings, and hearings.
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
An Interpreter is someone who provides a spoken language interpretation between speakers who speak different languages.

The primary focus of the International Student Services office is to conduct English language proficiency screenings for middle and high school students.  International student transcript evaluations are also completed by the Student Services office for high school students to ensure proper course credit, grade placement and that all graduation requirements are met.  For students in grades K-5, language screenings are completed by the local school.  The Cobb County School District (CCSD) uses the WIDA Screener to determine language support eligibility for students whose first or primary language is not English.
To enroll in CCSD, parents must complete an online registration form which includes a Home Language Survey (HLS).  If a language other than English is identified on the HLS, students will be required to complete the English language proficiency screening.  Once the student is enrolled, the IWC will contact the family to schedule an appointment for the English language screening and/or transcript evaluation.

Si usted no habla inglés y necesita ayuda con el proceso de inscripción, comuníquese con el Centro Internacional de Bienvenida (International Welcome Center) al 678-331-3086 y presione 0.
